Row Houses
Huron near Prospect

As Buffalo grew more urban the European device of building small houses with party walls was occasionally tried as in eastern cities. However, with apparently unlimited space in which to spread, Buffalo builders preferred isolated or double houses. These distinguished houses, comparable to the best early nineteenth century English work in their elemental classicism, suggest a more compact type of city very different from the middle western pattern which Buffalo continued to follow.
